Covers for Drew Miller
Date: July, 2017
Client: Brother Saturn
As long as I have known and worked with Drew Miller, aka Brother Saturn, Chromadrift, and Life After Earth, he has trusted me implicitly to showcase his music in ways he doesn’t anticipate. The challenge is always to match the mood of the artwork to the music. Passage of Light is a piano record (and one of his best) that an accidental photo taken at Nuit Blanche in Toronto magically summarized along with a series of drawings for a digital booklet.
Unstable Lands is an album that lives up to its own name, the followup to Passage of Light, the theme of broken mazes and otherworldly landscapes fit this uneasy, intense record.
…And The Earth Spilt Blood is a restrained, guitar-based record that holds beauty and malice in equal measure. The art, squares from a selection of Japanese papers, with the ellipses, is a comment on that very restraint.
Chromadrift is Miller’s more beat oriented name. The album Oh, Horizon! is experimental pop, uplifting and yet still as strange and interesting as his Brother Saturn Material. The sunrise is for Miller himself, pulling out of his own issues by making music.
