BDA Kells Modern

Date: December, 2020

A “What if?” If there ever was one. BDA Kells Modern began life after looking at some Celtic manuscript images and wondering “what would Futura be like if it were based on these characters?” Having an intellectual itch to scratch and a typeface of the week to manufacture, with the help of a few reference images, the characters came along really quickly. While there is a lot of overlap with our common Latin letterforms, there are some significant differences such as the A, G, and M characters. The G itself is typically called an Irish G and is usually on a different level of the unicode standard. While the lines don’t necessarily read as Futura, they do lend the cold indifference of art deco to this letter format. This typeface is great for tabletop RPGs.
